Projektet drivs tillsammans med tre andra klubbar klubbar inom distrikt 2350 och är ett Global Grant projekt. Syftet är att erbjuda mikrolån till fattiga mayakvinnor i regionen Alta verapaz i Guatemala. Projektet har en budget på 35000 USD.
A humanitarian project in Rotary’s focus area of community economic development
This project supports economic development for poor Maya women and their families in rural
communities in Alta Verapaz region. The main components of the project are microcredit loans, savings
and training. Training will include topics such as entrepreneurship, business management, vegetable
cultivation and livestock as well as community leadership, gender equality, human rights and health
related topics.
The project’s overall objective is improved living conditions for poor Maya women, their families and
communities. This will be accomplished through income generation, increased employment, improved
skills and knowledge, reduced gender-based violence and discrimination, and higher levels of school
attendance. 4 women groups will be established, each with around 22 women as members. The project
will reach 88 women and their families, over 320 persons in total
